Geet.....Geetham....SANGEETHAM (Part 3)

This is the third and final installment of my never ending tag on melodious songs.

Part 1 - Geet (Hindi)
Part 2 – Geetham (Tamil)

Part 3 – Sangeetham - Malayalam

Criteria – Under-rated melodies from movies that starred Jayaram.

1) Nee Kaanumo - Irattakutikalude Achan

2) Swantham Nizhalumaayi - Ayalathey Adheham

3) Neer Mizhi Peeliyil - Vachanam

4) Saarangi Maaril - Paavakoothu

5) Paalazhi Theeram - Utthaman

6) Mounam Swaramaayi - Aayushkaalam

7) Puliyila Karayolam - Jaadakam

8) Saandramaam Sandhya - Krishnagudiyil Oru Pranayakaalathu

9) Ponnin Vala Kilukki - Njangal Santhushtaraanu

10) Chandana Thennalai - Sharjah to Sharjah

The other five that couldn’t make it to the above list (the songs are linked to the respective respective you-tube videos) :

1) Panchami Thingal - Friends

2) Marakkumo - Karunyam

3) Mayilaadum Kunnin Mel - Naadan Pennum Naatu Pramaaniyum

4) Chumbana Pookondu - Bandhukkal Shatrukkal

5) Eden Thaazhvarayil - Kuruppinte Kanakku Pushtakam

Note : Song selection is based on how under-rated these songs are and not their quality.

Jayaram is one of the finest actors we have today in the Indian film industry. This would be a tall claim for many, but that’s only because he is a highly under utilized actor, barring a few movies like Keli, Chitrashalabam, Karunyam, Shesham and Theerthadanam. He doesn’t have many awards to his credit, nor does he have any a huge stardom in Kerala, but he is one actor who has the ability to consistently lure the family audience to the theatres. A personal favourite of late directors like Padmarajan, Bharathan and actor Kamal Hassan, Jayaram has also been able to prove his mettle in Tamil movies like Tenali (won the Tamil Nadu State Award for Best Actor), Priyanka and Gokulam. He was going through a rough phase in his career from 2004 till about mid last year. (Infact, the whole Malayalam film industry is right now going through one of its worst phases with half baked scripts and poor characterizations.) But Verude oru bharya (2008) and his recent Bhagyadevatha resurrected his position once more in the industry. He had a humble beginning, struggled a lot in the industry which was and is still dominated by the two M’s, and captured their market for a brief period (1996 – 2004), but success never went over his head; he is still the same old humble and adorable person. Elephants are a craze for him and he also plays the Chenda (kerala drums) as a hobby and has given several public performances. Check out this exclusive video where he plays it along with Sivamani. Awesome !!!

Jayaram has always been my favourite; but really don’t know since when. I have seen almost all his movies and I have missed quite a few only after I had shifted to Chennai. I usually refer him as “Enikku Janikaadhey Poya Ammaavan” (a uncle who wasn’t born for me). His style of acting is very natural and his ability to sink into the given character that families could easily relate to could be the reason for his tag - ‘Kudumba Sadassugalude Ishta Naayakan’ (favourite hero of the families). I had seen him personally once during a college cultural meet and he even posed for a quick snap. Last year, I had a brief conversation with him over the phone for about 30 secs, all thanks to my friend Reeta and her dad. I take this opportunity to wish my favourite actor all the best and to provide the Kerala audience with many more good movies.

Geet....GEETHAM.....Sangeetham (Part 2)

This is a tag and is Continued from Geet (Hindi) - Part 1

Part 2 – Geetham – Tamil

The criteria for Tamil songs – Melodies of Vidyasagar

1) Malarey Mounamey – Karna

2) Kanden Kanden – Madhurey

3) Sollitharavaa – Majaa

4) Athi Athikka – Aadi

5) Naan Varaindhu Vaitha – Jeyam Kondaan

6) Kaatrin Mozhi – Mozhi

7) Aasai Aasai – Dhool

8) Azhagoril – Thirumalai

9) Nee Katru – Nilave Vaa

10) Thaalaatum Katrae – Poovellaam Un Vaasam

The other five that couldn’t make it to the above list (the songs are linked to the respective respective you-tube videos) :

Vidyasagar, according to me, is one of the most underrated and under utilized music director in the Tamil industry. Malare Mounama (the first song in this post), was the first song of his that I heard and I developed an instant liking for his albums like Karna, Villadhi Villain and Aayudha Poojai. But my admiration towards this musical genius grew only after his success with Malayalam songs starting from ‘Azhagiya Raavanan’. He brings in the exact nativity required for the songs and its situation, especially in the melodies and I am sure many of the Malayalam speaking crowd here would agree with me. Though, he had won several awards and recognitions from the Malayalam industry, he had failed to create a similar impact with the Tamil crowd and that’s mainly because of his choice of movies. There are many more songs from this national award winning music director, but the above 15 are the top-of-the-mind favourite melodies and I would appreciate if any of you could mention a few others too.

GEET…..Geetham…..Sangeetham (Part 1)

Nimmy tagged me long long ago to list down 10 melodious /soulful songs from any two languages. Since I grew up watching Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam movies, it would be unfair if I listed down songs from just two languages. This tag, to avoid the length, is therefore presented as three different posts; Geet - Hindi songs, Geetham- Tamil songs and Sangeetham - Malayalam songs (Perhaps, for the first time in the history of tags. LOL). And moreover. it would be difficult to comprehend 10 +5 songs from each language if put all together.

The rule as mentioned above was to come up with 10 melodious tracks, but as far as I am concerned, that’s next to impossible. Considering the fact that we have had movies and songs right from the 40’s, how is it even possible to pick just 10 favourite ones? So, I have made a slight change in the tag in terms of specifications/ criteria and these specifications differ in each language too.

Btw, since the tag is modified a little for my convenience, I am NOT TAGGING anyone this time. But whoever wants to try it, can adhere to the original rule and you are most welcome to try this version of the tag too.

Part 1 – Geet – Hindi

Criteria --- Rare, unheard, and underrated melodies from 1994 till date. (Please excuse me, some of them here are so rare that they do not even have a proper you-tube video)

1) Chandni roop ki – Dus (1997 –unreleased) - Shankar Ehsaan Loy

2) Resham jaisi – Ek Tha Dil Ek Thi Dhadkan (1999 - unreleased) – Anand Raj Anand

3) Dhimee dhimee – 1947 Earth –A.R.Rahman

4) Door kahin - Zubeida – A.R.Rahman

5) Mujhse naaraaz – Papa Kehte Hain – Rajesh Roshan

6) Tum ho meri nigaahon pe – Kabhi Na Kabhi – A.R.Rahman

7) Kehte hain jisko – Grahan – Karthik Raja

8) Bol Sajni – Doli Saja Ke Rakhna – A.R.Rahman

9) Ankhon mein raho – Company – Sandeep Chowta

10) Apni zulfein – Tajmahal (2005) - Naushad

The other five that couldn’t make it to the above list (the songs are linked to the respective you-tube videos) :

Waada raha – Khakhee – Ram Sampat

Sarfaroshi ki tamanna – The legend of Bhagat Singh – A.R.Rahman

Aate aate – Chori chori – Sajid Wajid

Na kajre ki dhaar – Mohra – Viju Shah

Jadoo bhari – Dastak – Rajesh Roshan

I am sure there are many more such rare gems and it will be great if you could recollect some of them from any period and mention it over here in the comments section.

PS : Please drop in a mail if you require any of the songs mentioned above.

' I ' to the power of 25

Reema tagged me a couple of days back to reveal my 25 random facts and here they are :

Statutory warning : This post contains a lot of ‘I’s’ and can be very boring !!!

1. I love doing tags :D
2. I feel handicapped without my bike, lappie (notebook) and mobile and I wouldn’t feel complete without my watch, deos and my mobile headset.
3. I sing (so whats new, huh?), but I am just an overexposed bathroom singer. Participated in one of the reality shows in Jaya TV (tamil) last year. My songs are uploaded here and you could find it under the tab ‘My version’. But however friendly the person or group is, when asked to sing, I suddenly develop this shyness from nowhere which people misunderstand as fussing :D
4. I just don’t care what people speak about me behind my back. I let the dogs and bitches bark till they get tired. At the same time, I get hurt when I am emotionally back stabbed by any of my close friends.
5. I chose to live in the present and I simply hate listening to those who cling onto the past.
6. I am romantic in my own ways and don’t know how to express it in a mushy way.
7. I get easily irritated which people mistake it as my temper.
8. I often refuse to learn from my mistakes. One reason why I get deceived all the time.
9. I haven’t regretted after taking any of my important decisions and I don’t think I ever will. There are some of them who would have THE REALISATION later; I can never be one of them.
10. I hate it when my creative freedom is intruded. I am open to suggestions but I cannot stand it when they are forced upon.
11. I believe in gender equality. And if physically hurt, I make sure I observe that policy. LOL.
12. I simply love watching movies except those that fall under the horror genre. Why pay money and get scared, huh?
13. I am not inclined towards any sport, either by playing or watching. The only sport I used to watch was WWE, and that too, long long ago. But otherwise, I love those risk involving adventures, trekking and rides.
14. I am obsessed with the letter ‘V’
15. I have a small wooden bear and it has been with me since grade 3.
16. I listen to suggestions and opinions, but I only go ahead with what I feel is right. I have never had conflicts with my conscious.
17. I cant stand people with low IQ and even lesser sense of humor.
18. I am an agnostic.
19. I do not like working abroad just for the sake of money. If it’s a small project and just for a few months, its perfectly fine. Otherwise, I wouldn’t leave India even if I were paid in gold. Experience speaks !
20. I do not have stage fear and appear as a completely different person on stage. But before getting onto the stage, I experience those butterflies and moths in my stomach.
21. I don’t smoke and am a teetotaler. It has been four years since I stopped tea and coffee too. I have been ridiculed a lot for being this way, but I have only felt proud to make that tall claim.
22. I hate seeing hair in women. (Edited, after Reemas comment.LOL) well, except in the head of course !
23. I take time in forgiving people. I am not some machine controlled by a switch.
24. I spend a lot of time on my mobile but I am very bad at responding to SMS.
25. I am a chickenatarian(I hope they bring this genre very soon) but I always prefer veg to non-veg.

I hereby tag :

Aaarti, Alice, Ashwathy, Priya, Varun, Praddy, Rakesh Vanamali, Kanagu

PS : This is the first time I have published two posts on the same day. The one below was published at 6 am and this one at 6.30 pm. This is because, I had accidently published a post today (named Evolution) which was supposed to appear on my birthday.LOL. and to get that removed from your feeds, I had no other choice but to publish this, which was supposed to appear on friday. Oh well, everything is messed up big time now !

Now you'll all know what happened last year.....

I was already preparing a detailed 2008 review to publish it here when Poonam had tagged me for this meme. This tag would, perhaps, be a prelude to whatever I am going to write in my next post. And for the same reason, I had to deliberately omit a couple of questions from the original meme to avoid repetitions. I am not tagging anyone in specific, but it would be great if some of you could take it up yourself .

1. What did you do in 2008 that you’d never done before?
Spent a lot of time with myself !

2. Did you keep up your 2008 resolutions, and will you make more for 2009?

The Meanest Tag and the Coolest Award ever !!!

Guys, believe me, this is the meanest and the weirdest tag ever ! and of course, the most creative one that I have ever attempted too. Thank you, Pavan, for tagging me and I also thank Su for your joint efforts with Pavan in coming up with such a tag. This is my first battle with MS Paint and I hope I have lived upto the expectations of my tagger.

Here are the rules:
  1. You must use all the five words given to you by your tagger and draw pictures using paint or GIMP or any other photo editing tool.
  2. Each picture must be self explanatory when you relate it to the given word.
  3. Each word MUST have at least one picture attributed to it.
  4. You have to draw them yourself. No suggestions from a second person.
  5. You need to pass it on to other people with a fresh set of 5 words.

These are the 5 words assigned to me :

1. Mist

2. Teach

3. Umbrella

4. Dump
5. King

I tag the following people ( I pity you all, but I have no choice. Buhahahahahha) :

Your 5 words are : Music, Communication, Riot, Profession and Parents

Btw, I thank each one of you who had casted their valuable vote for me. I am referring to Poonams Avant Garde Bloggie Awards where in I was awarded the Most Responsive Blogger Award. Thanks a lot Poonam for creating such an opportunity for all of us. and btw, next year, I am going to nominate this post under the Best Tag Category.LOL.

Updated after publishing the post : Went to inform IHM on the tag and this is what I found :

Thankssss a lot IHM and thanks a lot people for all the love bestowed on me. This marks the 12th recognition for V-Lokam, all in a span of just 7 months.

Quirky me !!!

It has been quite a while since Apar tagged me to list down 6 of my quirks. To be honest I love doing tags, which I guess, in blogosphere, should be considered. The first tag that I had attempted was also related to my quirks, check it out here.

This is the best I could come up with and I hope these are quirky enough. I am sure that even my family and the closest of friends would not have noticed some of these odd traits in me.

1) The light quirk
I feel very upset and depressed if the lights in the rooms are not switched on after 6pm. Not to be mistaken with Achluophobia, it’s a feel of loneliness and I imagine that the last person left on this planet is me.

2) The sweet quirk
I DO NOT LIKE sharing chocolates, sweets and ice creams (especially) with anyone. I am ok with sharing food (again not from the same plate), but I give a disgusted look to the person once they intrude into my space with those mentioned. I also follow a unique way of finishing my ice creams, something which should actually be watched to understand and I guess the only person who had noticed that is my sis, Ramya.

3) The fruit quirk
I really don’t know if this is a quirk, but according to some of my friends, it is. I love fruits and I could survive for days only on them. But there is one particular fruit which I don’t like at all, a fruit that is considered to be the king of fruits - Mango ! I have come across people who love mangoes more than their spouses. But I just cant stand the way it tastes.

4) The weekday quirk
I always wished if there wasn’t a Tuesday among all the other weekdays. Tuesdays have always turned out to be horrible and unlucky for me and on such days, I wouldn’t dare take a decision or venture into anything on purpose. I have been helpless a couple of times, but even then, I must have tried my best to avoid it. Also ask me for a favor on a Tuesday, and you would hear NO from me !

5) The photo quirk
90 % of my snaps would have my trademark Donald Duck smile. But things change the moment I wear a sunglass. I would insist someone to take a side profile snap of mine and for some reason, I would not smile. These are only a few of them :

Another quirk of mine is that I take a lot of my own snaps and relate them to famous quotes, which I call ‘Quotos’; check out my orkut album to understand what I mean. Some say I am obsessed with myself and my brother, after looking at those, even claimed that I have N.P.D. (Narcissist Personality Disorder) !!!

6) The tablet quirk
How does a person have his tablets normally? Swallow them along with water ???
Well, I prefer chewing them. Yup, I literally chew the prescribed tablets and only after that I drink water to cleanse my mouth.

Apart from these, there were a couple of other temporary quirks too. For example, years back, I used to stop speaking to friends of mine who drink or smoke and during my MBA lectures, I visit the loo everyday at 10.20 am; majority of the class would have a check at their watches when I get up at 10.18 to seek permission ! Quriky me, I say !!!

I now tag Verbivorehere, Archana, Sangeetha, Whacky, Su and Rakesh. All the best guys !!!

Oct 21, 2008

Clicked !

Now, this is a very peculiar tag that Reema asked me to do. I am supposed to display some of my childhood snaps (a snap atleast 10 years old) that were taken without my knowledge or in other words, candid. Somehow I have never been comfortable with these tehelka kinds of shots and have always avoided when anyone tries to do that. I feel, I appear weird in all the candid shots and so I try my best to pose the moment I see someone lugging around a camera.

Well, here are three of those paparazzi moments and I believe there would be just another one or two of such lying at my native.

Bored-games!!!
This snap was taken at one of my brother’s friend’s home in Deira, Dubai. The snap shows how busy they were playing carom and look at me, as usual equally busy in my own world. I wonder (not again, huh?) what would have been in my mind at that age? ( in the picture : extreme left - my bro, extreme right - his friend, vinod)

The damn media never let me even sip my juice in peace !!!
This was taken at the then Safa Park now known as Mushrif Park, Dubai. It seems till I reached a certain age, my folks had to just mention ‘Safa Park’ and I’d be this obedient kid. Parents, I say !!! (in the picture : me and mom)
Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahi, na mumkin hain…..
I was in my kindergarten when this snap was taken in our Satwa residence, Dubai. You see, I was this chota Abinav in the making, but I would have been discouraged by my parents on account of my inborn violent traits. Guess what, I still play with a gun when I get hold of one; a toy gun that is !

And as a part of the tag tradition, I hereby declare my tag victims :

Aparna, Apar, Aaarti, Vinod, Pradeep, Smita, Sakhi, Vinu, Oxy, Arvind

Sep 19, 2008

What do you do when......you are tagged !!!!

I knew I always invite trouble, otherwise I wouldn’t have ended up with this tag ! Its funny and equally weird; I ended up in Aparnas WTML after blog hopping, left a very casual comment and the next thing I understand is that I am tagged. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it, especially when I set my own rules for the ones whom I tagged.

What do you do when..

---You see a man making a pass (trying to woo / flirt / impress) on a woman you like?
Like or love ??
Like – I wouldn’t bother, everyones got a chance !!!
Love – Again, I wouldn’t bother. Whatever he does, she is ultimately mine. (Gosh, why am I still single ??? )

--Some one you like, is not attracted to you?
Try one of those Axe Dark Temptation Deos (the one which has that chocolate man in the ad !!)

--You are attracted to some one, but both of you are in two different cities?
If its love, then I wouldn’t mind going and meeting her once in a while.
But if it’s a stupid one-sided attraction, I would rather find someone in the same city !!!

--You are reading a book, and your best friend wants to borrow it and can’t wait for you to finish reading, ‘coz he/she has been looking for it for all their life?
I don’t read books, so cant relate to this question (Unless, she is interested in my comics)
But if it comes to chocolates, sweets and ice-creams, it’s a big no-no. “Joey doesn’t share fooood !!!”

--You help plan his / her career, and then, they go on to achieve it, leaving you behind, alone.
His – “You too, brutus!!! “
Her – “Please send me your number once you reach there “

My question – What do you do when you have something to tell but no one around to listen ?

Start a blog!!!

The chosen victims are :

AlliRekha, Arvind, Smita, Harsha, Bedazzled and Mystique Dew

And now for my Rules :

  • Atleast one among the above should tag Aparna. She cant get away just like that !!!
  • You are supposed to adhere to Rule No.1 and can create your own rules.
  • You have to add a statement " The one who created this tag is smart but not as smart as the one who tagged me" in your post.
  • You should insert or add your own questions at the end.
  • Rules set by Aparna hereafter would not be considered.

Love is in the....tag !

Nikhil tagged(read dragged) me into this. This is the least expected out of me- writing a post on love but it was fun and I thank Nikhil for giving me this opportunity. Some of the answers here are purely fictional and some of them, right from my heart; I am leaving it to the readers to make their own judgement.
RULE #1 : People who have been tagged must write their answers on their blogs and replace any question that they dislike with a new question formulated by themselves.
RULE #2 : Tag 6 people to do this quiz and they cannot refuse. These people must state who they were tagged by and cannot tag the person whom they were tagged by. Continue this game by sending it to other people.

1. If your lover betrayed you, what will your reaction be?
Simple. I will make sure that her happiness is screwed for the rest of her life !!!

2. If you can have a dream to come true, what would it be?
Sharing my life with the girl whom I once lost. (That’s going to remain only as a dream now)

3. Whose butt would you like to kick?
My lovers butt. For not coming into my life earlier !!!

4. What would you do with a billion dollars?
Buy some junk made in platinum, take her to space and propose; give her an ‘out-of-the-world’ experience.

5. Will you fall in love with your best friend?

Of course. What are best friends for ? hehehe.

6. Which is more blessed, loving someone or being loved by someone?
I prefer the second one. Its always a wonderful feeling when you know that you are being loved by someone.

7. How long do you intend to wait for someone you really love?
Patience is my middle name and so I would wait for that special someone till my last breath and in all the births that I am permitted to have.

8. If the person you secretly like is already attached, what would you do?
Tell my feelings to the person with whom she is attached - make him feel inferior – with this new complex of his, a tiff would generate between them(natural, na?) - parallely act innocent with her and do all the pacifying acts - finally get her for myself!!! Wow, that’s like the meanest thing I have ever thought.

9. If you like to act with someone, who will it be? Your gf/bf or an actress/actor?
Why should I act with my GF ? I do that everytime. LOL.
I would die to work with my all time fav actor- Jayaram.

10. What takes you down the fastest?
Fake attitude.

11. How would you see yourself in ten years time?
Obviously, in a mirror.
Ok.... jokes apart. In ten years, married (cant say happily though) with a kid or two, trying to make so many ends meet !!!

12. What’s your fear?
Getting hooked up with a girl who remembers the time, dates, events and incidents like a historian.

13. What kind of person do you think the person who tagged you is?
A person whose life is a play ground for God ji. I know him only through his blog; the most hilarious person I know in blogosphere and after reading his take on this same post, the most romantic too.

14. Would you rather be single and rich or married but poor?
Any time, single and rich !!!

15. What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
I try to look at a photo that’s on my wall which has my loved ones; dad, mom and bro. Otherwise, it would be my mobile to check how many missed calls / sms I received.

16. Would you give all in a relationship?

Everything except my individuality.

17. If you fall in love with two people simultaneously, who would you pick?
The one who doesn’t give up on me… ever !

18. Would you forgive and forget no matter how horrible a thing that special someone has done?
Ya, I would. But also re-check my answer for Question no. 1

19. What are your three most important expectations in love ( Original Question: Will you marry me?)
Mutual Trust, mutual understanding and personal space.

20. List 6 people to tag:
3 women and 3 men. I had a random check with this tag on other blogs , and I found some of them in my blog roll already tagged for this post. My chosen ones are :

Poonam, Oxy, Priya, Anniyan, AV, Varun

(People, please read rule no.2, you cannot refuse. All the best!)

Flickr Mosaic Tag

Just when I was breaking my head thinking which post to publish from the ones I had planned, this tag from Poonam came as a blessing. Yippie, I have more time to think !

How this is done :
1. The answers to each of the questions below are applied in Flickr Search.
2. The best image is picked, but only from the first page.
3. Copy and paste each of the URLs for the images into fd’s mosaic maker.

1 ) What is your first name ?
Vimal. I was surprised to see the results in flickr. Only Vimal ??? Give me a break !!!

2) What is your favourite food? Right now?
Puttu and Kadala Curry; now and always. For those of you who dont know, its a Kerala delicacy. Puttu is often referred as steamed rice cake and Kadala Curry is the gravy made from black chickpea. Yummmm! I am going to see if I can get this 'right now'. Heres a link to the recipe :

3) Which high school did u go ?
Govt. Victoria College. The tree in the mosaic is a part of our huuuge college campus; thats where the ground is. I am surprised and equally glad to find this picture in flickr. Some good alumni soul had posted it but this is the only image of our college in flickr. The tree is referred as "Muthasshi maram" which means Grandmother Tree and is believed to be centuries old; our college started functioning from 1889.

4) What is your favorite color?
Black.

5) Who is your celebrity crush?
Honestly, there has never been any. But any celebrity who could come close to being called a 'celebrity crush' would be this French news reader, Melisa Theuriau. Check out her info in Wikipedia. Phew ! With such a news reader, who wouldnt watch television, huh?

6) Favorite drink?
Orange juice. Now a little fact about me- I am a teatotaller in all sense; I have never and will never have plans to taste any of the alcoholic beverages (including beer and wine) and have stopped tea and coffee 3 years ago.

7) Dream vacation?
Egypt. I just love the concept of Pyramids and the mystery behind it.

8) Favorite dessert?
Caramel Pudding.

9) What do you want to be when you grow up?
Singer ( Though I wish this question could have been reframed as "what do you want to be as you grow older?")

10) What do you love most in life?
Music.

11) One Word to describe you.
Crazy.

12) Your flickr name.
Now this is tricky. My flickr name is vimmuuu, but the search result was zero asking if I meant "vim" and thats how I got this into the mosaic.

I must thank Poonam for this tag, it was real fun !! And now I tag Oxy for his version.

The Expansionist Meme

Tagged by Poonam for this meme last week.
Well, some of the answers here are going to spoil the fun of this meme, but for crying out loud, that’s the fact !

Please thoughtfully consider the following, and choose one item for each of the categories below. (Be sure to describe your reasons for choosing)

One religious work from a non-familiar tradition you’ll read:
I do not believe in any particular religion and I read books once in a ‘brown’ moon (ya, that’s how bad I am with books). I wont call myself an atheist but I am against idol/human god worship. I do believe in a power that controls, drives or governs this universe; and people call it by different names. Its like the human mind; one cannot see it, but none can deny its existence. But I would love to read a book (if at all it exixts) on the similarities between the different religious beliefs. (Infact, a year back, I was hooked up with this book on greek mythology and I found a lot of similarities between the Indian myths and theirs. Not that there is a mention about this anywhere in the book, but somehow I felt so.)

One music video–that you like–from your “least likely to listen to’ genre:
I simply hate rock songs and I’ve hardly listened to any of them. I don’t find music in them, but do find a lot of noise. Among the few ones that I have heard, and the one that comes immediately to my small brain is Bon Jovis’ Its my Life; and then again, its because of the video.

A book from a genre you almost never read, that you have read, or you will read (promise!):
Not again ! Already mentioned in question 1. But there was an ‘era’ (till my 11th) when I used to take books even to the toilet to finish it. And when I say books, I mean, those hardy boys and nancy drews till my early teens and books like Lost World and X-Files later on. I still wonder how I lost this habit of mine and have tried nurturing it later on. It didn’t work out. Well, I don’t miss out an opportunity to read a comic or squeeze a magazine (not those film ones!). Nevertheless, I had taken a mid (new )year resolution to start reading and I am going to start with those reasonably smaller books lying at my place. Huge books would definitely be a turn off now. I have never broken my resolutions/vows and I will make sure after this meme, I will keep up to it.

Somewhere you’d never thought to go on holiday/vacation, and why it might be fun to go there?
Europe. I have always been fascinated by the lanscapes and castles in europe.

A specific food you’ve never tried, but will because of this meme, honest!:
This was the toughest question of the lot since I am not a foodie at all. Hmm…I have heard both positive and negative comments on Sushi and hadnt tried them yet. Now I will :)

A sport or game you really hate, or haven’t tried yet, but are willing to give one more go:
I am yet to figure out why I do not have an inclination towards any kind of sport. I have played cricket and football (only as a goalie because of my childhood size); but that was only during my schooldays. I would love to start playing badminton once I get a partner and a convenient spot; just to keep myself fit.

A style of dance you probably won’t try (we won’t make you promise on this one):
I am not going to try any of them in the near future. I have been tearing a lot of ligaments these days (three ligament tears in less than a year, can u imagine?)

A career job you don’t feel you’re suited for, and why:
A software engineer. I had to do a lot of coding for this blog myself ,with a lot of tips available over the net and Man, they are tough and equally taxing. No wonder, those guys look like zoimbies when they are at work (forgive me, brother, for this!)

An item that’s “thinking out of the box’ for this meme that hadn’t been included:
What would you like to be in your next birth(no ‘human being’ answers) ?

If’s there’s one thing in life you wanted to do, and will do because of this meme, what will it be?
I had an idea of getting a tattoo done but wasn’t sure about it. Now “Because of this meme”, I will be doing it pretty soon. God(oops!) bless me :)

Being weird is fun; especially at the movies!

I was tagged into this topic by a new found “blogmate” Poonam. I don’t know if this is the first time such a phrase is used, but it sounds good, doesn’t it? Found this particular topic a lot interesting and so decided to go ahead and post a similar one from my end too.

I have been a movie and music maniac ever since I know myself and I had a supportive family too; something like what one would find in the old hindi tele series “Filmi Chakkar”.

Going to a theatre was very rare during my early days; but we’d managed to watch almost all the releases, however crap they were, through the now extinct VCR. Then, there was a brief period when I had to get permission for any movie I watch. This was the period when I missed a lot of movies. But ever since I started living on my own, I have been a regular visitor to the theatres, CD libraries and torrent sites : )

Below are some of the odd things I do before, during and after watching a movie.

1. The cast and crew of the movie do make a difference before I make my decision. A big star cast doesn’t attract me though, because I feel that a big star cast means a weak story line with more of emphasis on each characters.

2. I also make my decisions based on how good the songs are. According to me, movies without a good soundtrack have seldom tasted success. Yes, there are rare cases too, for example, movies like Papa Kehte hain and Saawariya had outstanding music, but they were nothing but crap. And in some cases, the movie complements the songs too. For instance, the songs of the Munnabhai series, Chak de, Chennai 28 or even Chotta Mumbai appealed to me only until I got to see them.

3. I usually go for a movie all alone. Well, that’s not something that I wish for though. It’s that my taste of movies are a little hatke at times and none of my friends would ever want to take a risk. And moreover, a companion is not a requisite for me at the movies; for me its almost like being with a stranger once the movie starts.

4. Though I wish to watch movies first day first show, it rarely happens. But I make sure I read atleast one review of the movie before getting to watch it. That way, I could be on a safer side. Unfortunately off late, the reviews floating in the net seems a lot manipulated (OSO, Jodha Akbar, No Smoking, Sivaji, Ammuvaagiya Naan).

5. I prefer watching a movie right from the moment they screen the censor cert. In case I miss the initial portions, I make it a point to either download or rent a pirated version of the movie. Also, I wish to get up only after the final credits roll; but sometimes I get such irritating companions who would want to be the first person to get out of the hall.

6. While watching, I hate getting interrupted. And I get furious when people move here and there blocking my view. I would sit still in the hall unless the movie itself makes me restless (quite recently Welcome, Jodha Akbar and Bheema).

7. I do like the occasional hooting or whistling whenever the movie demands. That’s one reason why I like watching the movies that stars Rajnikanth; the adrenaline reaches an unexplainable level when all of them in the hall applause or whistle at a compelling scene or dialogue. And when there is a sudden power shortage, I make it a point to join along with my fellow hooters.

8. I love watching the videsi animation flicks and also the movies related to cartoons/comic books; brings out the kid in me. I personally consider myself to be one the biggest fan of Spiderman and once I had no other option but to watch Spideman 2 in Telugu. Man! it was hilarious to hear Spiderman utter “Theeeskko”(which means take that) whenever he shoots his web. I have never watched a horror movie all these 26 years (oh god! Did I jus reveal my age here?) and never will too. Can you believe, I once watched a scene in Zee Horror Show (while surfing the channels), didn’t sleep and didn’t let my parents sleep for over 2 days!!! (guys, that happened long long ago!)

9. I do a lot of word-of-mouth advertisement on how the movie is; positive or negative campaign, depending on how the experience was.

10. Discussing with those who have already seen the movie. I also try and read most of the reviews that are available over the net after watching the movie. And ever since I started blogging, I try commenting; either in my blog or in my blogmates’ (not again!).
