S.i.B - 4

At last, I am getting this series updated now. Also made the title short from Small is Beautiful to S.i.B. The fifth part will follow this post with the latest releases including Rock On and Dhaam Dhoom.

Subramaniapuram (Name of a place in Madurai) - Tamil :
Quite a few movies leave you in awe after coming out of the hall and Subramaniapuram is one of them. First time director Sasikumar excels both behind the camera and also on screen as one of the lead protagonist. The music and BGM goes well as a part of the movie. With an 80’s backdrop, and with each character and sequence well written, this movie is definitely one of the best Tamil movies to have been made so far. Highly recommended. The Non-Tamil viewers should catch it once a subtitled DVD version releases. Rating 4.5 / 5

Kismet Konnection (Connected by Fate) - Hindi :
Yawwwwn ! One of the lousiest movies that has ever released in Bollywood. We have Shahid doing a SRK, just when we were getting a lot used to SRK’s antics and Vidya Balan, yaawwwn, doing a role similar to the one she did in LR Munnabhai. Hindi should be the second language in Canada, everyone seems to be knowing the language there; even strangers, yawwnn, greet each other using Hindi words like Betaaa (referring to the scene when Vidyas waving friend meets her for the first time). Please yawwwn avoid. Rating 1/5

Singh is Kinng ( Uff!!!) - Hindi
The new Akshay is getting as stale as SRK. When it is an Akshay movie, we know what to expect now. Hope this doesn’t continue, as each movie of his is getting crappier. Katrina smiles, dances, try to look sad and that’s about it. Ranvir Sheroy in a cameo was fun to watch. But why the double role for Javed Jaffery??? The first half was bearable and the second half, a sheer torture. Avoidable. Rating 2 / 5

Kuselan ( Name of Lord Krishnas friend) - Tamil
P.Vasu sure knows how to rape a malayalam movie by remaking it in Tamil. He turned the masterpiece Bharatham into a horrible Cheenu, the classic Manichitrathaazhu (Bhool Bhulaiyya in Hindi) into a bizarre Chandramukhi and now the soulful Kadha Parayumbol (getting remade in Hindi as Billo Barber) into a rotten Kuselan. Cant waste time to write anymore on this. Avoid at any cost. Rating 0 / 5

Bachna Ae Haseeno (Escape, oh ladies!) - Hindi
Watch it with zero expectations and you might end up liking BAH. It was a pleasure watching Ranbir out of his blue image (Saawariya). Out of the three leading ladies, Bipasha had the best role; Minisha looked too old to pass off as an 18 year old in the initial portions of the movie while Deepika had too less a screen space to comment (she looked good in the song though). Ranbir had the same expression throughout the movie when his character was supposed to have two different shades pre and post interval. Except for two songs, the rest were passable. Average. Rating 2.5 / 5

God Tussi Great Ho (Bruce Almighty) - Hindi
If GTGH had its release somewhere in the early 2000’s, it would have been a run away hit. Still wondering what made all the lead actors agree to be a part of this when the face of Bollywood is slowly changing. Salman was good, Priyanka as usual is wasted and someone please ask Sohail to stop acting. Oh, wait, AB Sr. also does an inconsequential role as God ji. A lot of side characters, which could have been written well, pass off without notice. Music can never be as pathetic as this. Avoidable. Rating 2 / 5

Kadha Parayumbol by itself was a sheer waste I felt, with nothing really in the film to take out. And forget remaking it, it can only get even more shitty!

My Rating:

KK - 0
SIK - 1
BAH - 2
GTGH - Didn't see.

Vidya Balan is over-rated actress, Akshay will soon reach there if he doesn't do something soon (I still like him though). Bipasha was better than both I agree to you here, Minisha look bloated version of Preity to me. Deepika is ok ok types. No beauty but acting was kinda better. Lol @ Ranbir's expression.

@ Soneeta :

"Singh is Kinng - didnt see"..dont. Btw, u missed one 'n' in Kinng, you might get sued by the makers!!!

Kuselans original was too good, you should see it to believe it.

@ Sujith :

To each his own views. Bachna according to me wasnt pathetic. It had its best parts. and I guess you are the only person I know who dint like Kadha Parayumbol. Then again, to each his own view. You liked Rasathantram and I felt like killing the people behind that movie !!!

@ Allirekha :

Superb song, no? Now that you made said, I guess a younger and much more vibrant female voice would've taken the song to a different level.

@ Reema :

Yup, I did read all the reviews and too bad that you dint give GTGH a miss :)

@ Oxy :

"GTGH - didnt see"..dont !!!

I feel Vidya acts well, but she doesnt suit all these kind of 'bubbly' characters. She was perfect for the role of Parineeta, Eklavya and Bhool Bhulaiyya.

Y s tht U never forget to write something nasty abt srk?!! ...im wondering y is tht u didnt praise Singh is King?..hehe

AND SRK IS STILL THE KING!!!!

Rasathanthram had a good theme behind it. Yes, I didnt find mohanlal suitable for the rolse but otherwise movie was well taken. But what is the theme behind Kadha Parayumbol? It blows the whole theme of humility out of proportion. Yeah my view it is [:D]

not seen even a single out of that list :(
would see subranyapuram soon..gotto download it :P

@ Sujith :

Rasathantram and theme ! Guess both of us watched different movies with the same name...hehehe.

@ Arvind :

Please do. Wonder how come you missed it in the theatres; thought you were very much in chennai!!!

Here is some news for Mallu film fans:

Thiruvananthapuram: Fifteen Malayalam film producers, who have grouped together for reducing the cost of filmmaking and promoting new directors, have decided not to cast any superstars in their movies.

Veteran producer Suresh Kumar Monday said the United Producers Forum was formed this month since no producer is in a position to alone absorb the losses when a film flops.

"All but three of the 38 films released this year till August have flopped and the total loss to the producers is in excess of Rs 1 billion. We just cannot go like this so we decided to join hands," Suresh Kumar, who has produced more than 30 films in a career spanning two decades, told IANS.

"To start with, we will do five films and the cost of each film will be around Rs 10 million. We will have new directors but will not do any films with superstars," he added.

Filmmakers say the huge remuneration charged by superstars is the main reason why the cost of a film shoots up.

However, the three films that made some money for the producers this year all had superstars. The movies were Annan Thampi starring Mammootty, Madambhi starring Mohanlal and Veruthae Oru Bhariya starring Jayaram.

"Close to 70 per cent of the total film cost goes by way of remuneration to actors and technicians," said B Unnikrishnan, who wrote the script of Madambhi.

Veteran scriptwriter SN Swamy said several factors are responsible for the success of a film and a film with no superstars will have to bank heavily on marketing.

Sources said big stars like Mammootty and Mohanlal charge around Rs 6 million.

"My blockbuster film Poochaku oru Mukuthi directed by Priyadarshan in the early 80s cost less than Rs 800,000 to make. Now if I do such a film it will cost Rs 30 million while the market for Malayalam films hasn't grown," said Suresh Kumar.

Vimal should obviously be happy for the fact that his ammavan's movie (Veruthe Oru Bharya) is in the list of hits this year. But God knows how Annan Thampi made money... That shows the class of malayalam movie audience.

Vimal can you start some opinion poll of movies on your blog? Check out if this is technically feasible on blogspot.

Cheers -> Sujith

@ Sujith :

Thanks a lot for the info.Dude, you rock!!!

Malayalam industry has churned out to one junk now. Its become more like the Kannada industry of the 90's. Industry is flooded with C grade superstar movies and also telugu remakes.Decisions like these would only bring in good cinema. I am so happy to know this !!!

Btw, Verude oru bharya isnt such a great movie. Its good and a lot better when compared to the current craps. But I must admit, Jayaram rocked through out!!!

Its a nice idea, let me see how it works. Probably I will get in touch with you for good topics, also. Thanks again man!

subramaniapuram-- Managed to see it finally, did not like it much though, too much of violence..Guess u liked it quite a bit and u have awarded it a rating of 4.5/5....hmmmm... Music also was not great except for the kangal irandal song, thought of avoiding watching the movie and now i feel i should have hung on to my thought
Kuselan- had expected it to do badly and I was right in thinking so...
